From Corny To Cheesy: Red Leicester To Follow Pasty Onto Protected List
Timeless classic, the Cornish Pasty, has been granted protected status and William Hill have opened betting on what will be the next traditional British fayre to earn its place on the plinth of protected produce. Hills make Red Leicester cheese the 5/4 favourite to guarantee its exclusivity, while Lancashire Hot Pot is the 3/1 second favourite. Lincolnshire Pork Sausages are 4/1 and Bury Black Pudding 7/1.
?Following the induction of the Cornish Pasty, Red Leicester connoisseurs will be hoping their product will be the next protected foodstuff and the odds suggest it should be as CHEESY as one, two, three,? said Hill?s foodie fellow Joe Crilly.
Next Food To Gain PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) Status: 5/4 Red Leicester Cheese; 3/1 Lancashire Hot Pot; 4/1 Lincolnshire Pork Sausage; 7/1 Bury Black Pudding; 8/1 Scottish Wild Salmon; 10/1 Bakewell Pudding
(Must be confirmed by 31st December 2011, by the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs. Singles only, only these selections count.)
